(Distance de Camping - 26Km)
Kyparissia is a maritime town at the south-west of Peloponnesus. It’s the capital of the province of Trifylia of the county of Messenia. It’s the agricultural trade centre of the region and the address of the St Metropolis of Trifylia and Olympia. It is situated at the north-west banks of Psichro mountain, at the foot of Egaleo mountain.
It is divided into the ancient Uptown, a preservable built-up area, and the modern Downtown, a new built-up area, which reaches the shoreline of the Ionian Sea. The Uptown is built at the foot of a small hill of 150 meters, at the top of which the ruins of Venetian castle are saved. This castle was built at the prehistoric period and was developed during the period of Venetian domination. In the period of Ottoman Empire, it was the rampart for the combats of residents against the conquerors. The region is rich in green and has a lot of sandy beaches, where, even today, tortures caretta-caretta make their nests. Kyparissia is said to be populated since the prehistoric period and was developed to main commercial center, especially during 4th century BC. In the mediaeval years, it was named Arkadia probably by many Arkades who were sheltered there oppressed by the Slaves.
