Filiatra
(Distance from Camping - 9Km)
Filiatra is one of the newer and more beautiful towns in west Messenia. It dates back to 16th century, but its origins seem to begin from ancient Erana which is situated at the region of Agia Kyriaki. The model of the Eifel Tower at north entrance of the town is its trademark. Then, the central square, the Kapodistria square, with the gorgeous Venetian fountain, the eucalyptus and the historic clock, is the meeting point of all ages. At the region of Filiatra, a lot of mediaeval and byzantine monuments are saved. The monastery of St Christopher, the historic temple of Virgin Vlacherna and St Denis of Morena, the temple of Ascension, the holy monastery of Evangelistria and the holy temle of Virgin of Agrili. At Agrili, Stomio, Agia Kyriaki and Lagouvardos, there are many magnificent sandy beaches with total blue waters.
Finally, the municipal department of Christianoi, situated at the west bank of Egaleo Mountain, was one the most populated and flourished towns, with excellent personalities of Greek Orthodoxy. The ancient byzantine temple (of 11th century) dedicated to Metamorphosis of Jesus, is the pride of the village.
